Keeping First Responders Safe

When a tragedy hits, it is hard to look past the immediate dangers surrounding you and your family. First responders are always there to help you, but it is important to do as much as you can to keep them safe. Here at Emergency Decals, we want our first responders to always be safe so that they can help you in your times of need. Here are a few tips to make sure that first responders stay able to work hard to make sure your family is safe;

Pull Over

When you hear sirens or see flashing lights when driving, it is important that you pull over. There is a reason that those lights and sirens are on, and these workers need to get somewhere in a hurry. Use discretion while pulling off to the side of the road, making a clear pathway for the emergency response vehicle. Try not to cut other drivers off or get in the way of the emergency vehicle.

Roadside Safety

When you are in a vehicle accident waiting for a first responder to arrive, there are a few things you can do in order to ensure that everyone in the situation stays safe. Get the vehicle to a safe, out-of-the-way spot, and then get out of the car. If you’ve been in an accident, motion for the other driver to follow you. Carry flags, flares or reflective triangles in your vehicle so you can mark your location in the event of an emergency. Remember to turn on your hazard lights so that other drivers have advanced warning of a problem ahead. These actions will allow for both you and the emergency responders involved in the accident to be safe!
